My girls got asked to the Daddy-Daughter Dance at
church. By whom? Their Daddy of course!

They love him!
Shortly after they left, I realized that I had the house all
to my self. What shall I do to
fill the time without them??? The
possibilities were endless—ice cream and chick flicks? Organize closets in peace. (Not my
first choice for a Friday night).
A bubble bath?
Manicure?
Well, I started by posting the darling pix of the girls with
their date on FaceBook like a good American mom that I am. That led to mindlessly trolling
FaceBook and Instagram for as long as I wanted without being rude to my family.
Then I got hungry.
A Kashi microwave meal was my solo dinner of choice. Pesto Pasta—yum! After I popped the package in the
microwave, I decided to go ahead and try the sparkling wine a friend had given
us to celebrate our new home. It’s
from a local vinyard and I was curious to try it. I’m the only one in my family who drinks and while I realize
it’s not customary to drink champagne alone, I got my heart and mouth set on a
few sips and decided: what the heck.
Big mistake.
The bottle opened easily—too easily. POP! The cork hit the ceiling. (Seriously.) Then came the overflowing bubbly just like in the
movies. (Can you tell that I don’t
have a ton of experience opening champagne?!) So, the first activity of my evening was cleaning up
sparkling wine off the floor. Good
times. I thought this mishap would be redeemed by laughing about it with Julie, so I texted her, but she
ignored me** so I laughed at myself by myself. Moral of the story:
Never try to drink champagne alone.
**Amendment: Julie did not ignore me. She was doing super-spiritual stuff like leading her church small group in her home. She silently laughed at my text and texted me back the moment she was free. She is the best.

Next…
I ate my dinner,
checked Instagram,
and put the girl’s roses
from Bill into vases
all at the same time.
I’m a mom—multitasking is my thing.
Then, I took some pictures of the girl’s roses incase I
wanted to Instagram them later.
Faux lether jacket--do you like it?
After that, I did a quick clean-up around the living room so
that it looked suitable for no reason whatsoever.
Then, I tried on the plether jacket I bought myself
today. Not sure if I can pull it
off, but I’m going to try tomorrow night.
What do you think?—too biker chick?
This is what I wear 80% of the week.
After that, I changed into my favorite yoga pants and
hoodie. Bill calls it my “home
uniform.” It’s comfy and not one
bit cute. Oh well.
Even brand new tubs need cleaning--who knew?
After I changed, I looked hard at my bathtub to see if I
wanted to take a bath. I do love a
good bubble bath, but I decided the tub would need to be cleaned before I could
bathe in it, so I nixed that idea.
Friday night is perfect for filter changing.
Instead, I changed the air filters for our HVAC unit. Well, I had to do something productive!
TOO. MANY. TO. COUNT.
dancing in slippers.
After the pillow pile-up, I then put on Rend Collective Experiment as loud as I wanted and danced and jumped around the living
room. No, really, I did. The whole time I kept thinking about
how my friend Conor told me that they recorded this entire album outside at a
campfire. Can that be true? I don’t know, but it’s great dancing
music for when your family has left you all alone in the house.
Finally, I did decide to do a manicure. It didn’t take very long and I got to
let them dry completely without having to pack lunches or tie shoes or rush out
the door or anything. I did take way too long trying to get a pic of my finished nails…and then for some reason can't get it to save to my computer. So, you will have to use your imagination. They are silver.
And now?
Now, I am writing this meaningless blog post just for the fun of it
because I haven’t written anything good in quite a while. So, maybe this will help me break
through my writer’s slump* and write something edifying next time. Meanwhile, you’ve had a glimpse into my
super-exciting Friday night life.
Xoxo
