The Most Awesome Rain Boots Known to Man

My charcoal gray Hunter "wellies" look blue in this pic.

Here’s what I love:  I now have the most awesome rain boots known to man.  I mean, I could muck out horse stalls in these things.  They are legit!

However, on Tuesday, as I was making my way from the parking lot into the church for my morning bible study, I found myself side-stepping puddles, tip-toeing over wet sidewalk and avoiding muddy grass.  How silly is that!?  Do you know how high and awesomely water-proof these boots are!?

I could confidently stride through a puddle the depth of my calf with these awesome boots.  Why was I walking as if I was wearing suede sling-backs?!

Look at what you are wearing Elisabeth!

Remember what you have on!

I’ve been learning this lesson on another level as well.

We are clothed in Christ’s righteousness.  Because of this, we have all sorts of amazing blessings available to us.  Things like: new life, freedom, riches, heavenly reward, forgiveness, and grace.

But instead of walking confidently, we cower in anxiety and worry.  We cringe with guilt and wallow in bitterness.  We feel sad and unloved instead of filled with joy with the realization of God’s unending, unstoppable love for us.

Why?  Because we forget.

We forget His love.   We forget the truth that we are clothed in Christ.

We must NOT forget.

Stack up some stones, put up a sticky-note, turn your watch upside down, tie a string on your finger, fast for a day, think about His love every time you see a stop light turn red, or think of other ways to remind yourself.

Remember that you are extravagantly loved.  That you are now a child of God—chosen and redeemed by Jesus’ sacrifice.

Chosen.  Loved.  Completely forgiven.  Free from sin.  Filled with the strength and spirit of God Himself.  These facts should make you walk confidently…

Slosh through the wet grass.
Squish through the mud.
Plunge through the puddles!

Don’t anxiously try to avoid getting in the muck of this decaying world.

Christ didn’t.

Surround yourself with Him.  Let Jesus fill you up and wrap you in His arms.  Walk in the knowledge of belonging to Him and let His strength help you through the problems that loom around you like mud puddles.

But, sometimes it feels as if the decaying world is attacking you with full force.  Rain boots just won’t cut it.  That’s why God prescribes armor!

So, don’t forget what you are wearing.  Don’t tip-toe around in the suede sling-backs of your own strength and “good” deeds.  If you’ve accepted Christ, you are completely covered by His love.  I am going to work on remembering to walk confidently in that truth.  How will you remind yourself?
